You cannot combine Gmail and Slack into one inbox with either product alone. Slack's own routes send single emails into Slack so a team can discuss them, and Gmail has no feed for Slack. To read both in one list, you need a tool that connects to both and ranks them together. The three routes below differ in what they actually combine.
The three routes at a glance
Two of the three routes move email into Slack and leave you with two places to read. Only the first puts both in one list. The table shows what each one does and what it leaves open.
| Feature | What it combines | What stays separate |
|---|---|---|
| 1. One feed (Nolario) | Gmail and Slack in one ranked list | Posting mail into channels |
| 2. Slack for Gmail | One email at a time into a channel | Reading Slack: it stays in Slack |
| 3. Forwarding address | Mail that matches a rule goes to Slack | Ranking, replying from one place |
Route 1: one feed that reads both
A single feed is the only route that gives you one list. Nolario is our product, so weigh this pick accordingly. We rank it first because it connects to Gmail and to Slack, scores every item from 0 to 100 and ranks both in the same list, so a short Slack message from a client can sit above a newsletter that arrived earlier. It drafts replies in your voice and never sends them.
The limits are plain. Nolario is a desktop web app, access is by waitlist, and it does not post an email into a Slack channel for a team to discuss. It also has no shared queue. If what you need is a place where a whole team works one mailbox, that is a different tool, as we explain in shared inbox vs unified inbox. For what a unified inbox means in general, see what a unified inbox is.
Route 2: Slack for Gmail sends one email at a time
Slack for Gmail is a free Gmail add-on that sends an email into a Slack channel or direct message, which makes it a sharing tool and not an inbox. When we opened the Google Workspace Marketplace listing on October 19, 2026, it described the steps as: install the add-on, open an email, click the Slack icon, choose a channel or person, add an optional message and attachments, and send. The listing says it is free of charge.
Read what it asks for before you install it. The same listing names permissions to read the contents of your email messages while the add-on runs and to handle drafts and send emails on your behalf when you use it. Its last listing update is dated August 31, 2023, and the user reviews it shows, which Google says it does not verify, mention messages posting as a bot and no editing after sending. Slack's help page adds that a Google Workspace administrator may need to approve the install.
Route 3: a forwarding address sends mail by rule
Slack gives you addresses that accept email, and a forwarding rule in Gmail can point mail at them, which moves selected mail into Slack without a click. Slack's Help Center article "Send emails to Slack" names three ways: a channel or DM email address on paid plans, the email add-ons on all plans, and a personal forwarding address under Preferences, Messages and media, on all plans. The page says channel members can get a channel address by default, and that owners and admins can manage that permission.
There are restrictions. The page says enterprise organizations that are HIPAA compliant cannot send emails to Slack, and that an admin may have disabled incoming email for the workspace. The Outlook add-in works with Office 365 only, not on-premises Exchange, which matters if your mail is in Outlook. The page shows no publication date, only a 2026 copyright line, and no size limits. A rule also needs you to decide up front which mail goes to Slack, and that is the judgment you were trying to avoid.
How to choose
Choose by the problem. If you want a team to discuss one email, use route 2. If you want one list for yourself where Gmail and Slack are ranked together, use route 1. If you want to keep what you have, the manual routine in how to check Gmail, Slack and Teams without missing a client works without any tool. The longer picture of which assistants cover both channels is in the best AI assistants for Gmail, Slack and Teams, and the cost of switching between them is in the cost of context-switching for founders.
