If you read about Gmail's AI Inbox and opened Gmail in Munich, Vienna or Zurich to find nothing new, your account is not broken. Google ships the feature in the US and in English only, and that has not changed with the Workspace rollout in October 2026. This post is for founders and managing directors in Germany, Austria and Switzerland who want to know what is missing, which Gemini features they can use today, and what ranks their mail in the meantime.
Is Gmail's AI Inbox available in Germany, Austria or Switzerland?
No, not yet. Google's Workspace Updates post of 15 October 2026 says AI Inbox "is currently only available to users in the US with EN-US as their language". It reached Rapid Release domains from 12 October and reaches Scheduled Release domains from 26 October, on Business and Enterprise plans, with Starter and Education editions to follow. For personal accounts, the Gmail Help page ties it to Google AI Plus, Pro or Ultra, again English and US only.
What the feature does is worth knowing, because it is the reason people search for it. Google describes AI Inbox as a briefing above the regular inbox that pulls out action items, deliverables and deadlines from your threads and summarizes your most important topics. Our comparison of Nolario and Gmail's AI Inbox covers what it shows and where it stops: it reads one Gmail mailbox and nothing in Slack or Teams.
Which Gemini features in Gmail work here today
Most of Gemini in Gmail works outside the US; the ranking part does not. When we went through the Gmail Help list of Gemini features on 19 October 2026, it named nine features. Two are US only for every plan: AI Inbox and Help me schedule. Two name German among their languages and are marked Global: conversation summaries and Help me write. Summarize and draft for Workspace lists 29 languages without naming them on that page.
| Feature | Language | Where |
|---|---|---|
| AI Inbox (priorities and to-dos) | English | US only |
| Help me schedule | English | US only |
| AI Overview conversation summaries | 8 languages incl. German | Global |
| Help me write | 8 languages incl. German | Global on paid plans |
| Summarize and draft (Workspace) | 29 languages | Global |
| Suggested replies | English | Global on paid plans |
| Proofread | English | Global |
| AI Overview in Gmail search | English | Global |
| Gmail Live (mobile) | English | Global |
So a German Workspace account can summarize a long thread and draft in German, but it gets no list of what needs you first. That gap is the whole point of AI Inbox.
When will it come to Europe?
Google has not named a date. Its announcement of 8 January 2026 said: "We're starting with English and excited to roll out more languages and to more regions in the coming months." Nine months later the October Workspace post still limits the feature to the US. We would not plan a workflow around a date Google itself has not given, and nothing in Google's pages says why Europe is waiting, so we do not guess.
Is Outlook further along with Copilot?
Partly, if your company pays for Copilot. Microsoft's Copilot in Outlook FAQ describes Prioritize my inbox: it reviews mail as it arrives, assigns high, normal or low priority and says why. The same page says it "currently only supports Tier 1 languages" and does not list which those are. The more autonomous features Thurrott reported on 28 April 2026, triage with inbox rules and suggestions on which meetings to decline, need the Microsoft Frontier program and Microsoft 365 Copilot Business licenses. For a team on Microsoft 365, our list of AI email assistants for Outlook compares the options.
What to use in the meantime
You can get most of the way with what you already have. In order of effort:
- Gmail's Important first. The classic importance markers work in every country. Our routine for checking Gmail, Slack and Teams without missing a client shows how to set it up.
- Conversation summaries in German. Use them on long threads before you reply; they are the Gemini feature most clearly available here.
- Outlook's Focused Inbox, and Prioritize my inbox if you have a Copilot license. See how to keep Outlook and Teams from burying a deadline.
- A tool that ranks across channels. If your important messages also arrive in Slack or Teams, a Gmail-only briefing would not have covered them anyway. Read how an AI decides which emails are important before you pick one, and what to check before you let it read your mail.
Where Nolario fits
Nolario is not a way to get Google's AI Inbox early. It is a separate desktop web app that pulls Gmail, Outlook, Slack, Microsoft Teams, Google Calendar and any IMAP mailbox into one feed, scores every item for importance and ranks the feed so the important thing is at the top. It drafts replies in your voice and never sends them. We build it in Austria, and the interface is available in German. Message content is scrubbed of personal data before anything reaches an AI provider. It does not run inside Gmail, there is no mobile app, and access is by waitlist; see the integrations and pricing pages.
