Slack's To-dos tab replaced the Later tab in its sidebar. Old Later items with a reminder became to-dos, and the rest moved to Saved. If you also turn emails into tasks in Gmail or Outlook, you now have a separate to-do list inside Slack, and Slack's help article mentions no sync with other task apps. Below is what changed, how to add a to-do, and where Slack's list sits next to the ones in Gmail, Outlook and Nolario.

What replaced Slack's Later tab?

The To-dos tab replaced Later in Slack's sidebar. Slack's updates page lists the change under October 2026 as "Later is now To-dos": you can add messages, files and other items as to-dos, and they appear in the To-dos tab. The help article, opened on October 27, 2026, says the rollout is gradual, so your workspace may not have it yet, and that it is open to all members and guests on all plans.

Slack moved your old Later items when the tab changed. In-progress items with a reminder became to-dos and show at the top of the tab. In-progress items without a reminder and archived items moved to Saved, in the Home tab. Completed items stay in To-dos below the open ones.

How do you add a message or file as a to-do in Slack?

  1. On desktop, hover over a message and click Add to-do. For a file, hover, click More actions, then Add to-do.
  2. On mobile, tap and hold the message or file, then tap To-dos.
  3. For an item that is not a message, open the To-dos tab and use Add To-do.
  4. Add a reminder from the tab or on the message if you want to be notified about a deadline in Activity.

A new Slack to-do has no reminder unless you add one, and without a reminder Slack does not notify you about its deadline in Activity. Slack's article says clearing a to-do removes it from the list whether or not it is complete. Slack's article says you can move items between To-dos and Saved from Home, Saved, More actions, which suits things without a due time.

How does Slack's list compare with tasks from email?

Slack's to-dos start from a Slack message, and Gmail and Outlook tasks start from an email, so each list only holds what you captured in its own app. The table was built on October 27, 2026 from Slack's help center, Gmail Help and Microsoft Support, with Nolario's task page for the last column.

Where Nolario fits, and where it does not

Nolario is our product, so weigh this section accordingly. Nolario reads new mail from Gmail, Outlook and IMAP for requests and deadlines, suggests a task with a free slot from your real calendar, and by default enters it only after your tap. Tasks live in the task card on the dashboard and stay in sync with Google Tasks or Microsoft To Do if you connect either one. Nolario does not read the Slack To-dos tab, and its task and deadline suggestions come from mail, not from Slack, so a Slack to-do stays a Slack list.

That leaves a practical rule for founders: use Slack To-dos for what someone asked you in Slack, and keep tasks that come from mail in one list outside Slack. For the mail side, see how to turn emails into tasks in Gmail and Outlook. For the Slack side of the day, see how to combine Gmail and Slack in one inbox and how to check Gmail, Slack and Teams without missing a client. See also integrations and pricing.

Limits of this guide and of Nolario

We read Slack's help article and updates page, Gmail Help and the Microsoft Support page on dragging a message to a task. We did not test the To-dos tab in a workspace. Nolario is a desktop web app with no mobile app, has no shared inbox or assignment, never sends a message for you, and access is by waitlist.

Frequently asked questions

What happened to Slack's Later tab?

Slack replaced it with a To-dos tab. Slack's help center article "Later is now To-dos", which we opened on October 27, 2026, says in-progress Later items with a reminder became to-dos, in-progress items without a reminder moved to Saved, and archived items also moved to Saved. Completed items stay in To-dos.

How do I add a message to my Slack to-dos?

On desktop, hover over the message and click Add to-do. For a file, hover, click More actions, then Add to-do. On mobile, tap and hold the message or file and tap To-dos. You can also use Add To-do in the To-dos tab to write your own item. Slack's help article, read on October 27, 2026, gives these steps.

Does a Slack to-do have a reminder?

Only if you add one. Slack's help article says creating a to-do does not set a reminder by default. You can add one from the To-dos tab or on the message or file, and its article says to include a reminder if you want to be notified about a deadline in Activity.

Do Slack to-dos sync with Google Tasks or Microsoft To Do?

Slack's help article, which we read on October 27, 2026, does not mention any sync with Google Tasks or Microsoft To Do. Treat the To-dos tab as a separate list that lives inside Slack.

Can Nolario read my Slack to-dos?

No. Nolario does not read the Slack To-dos tab. Its task and deadline suggestions come from Gmail, Outlook and IMAP mail, not from Slack, and it keeps tasks in sync with Google Tasks or Microsoft To Do if you connect either one.

Does Nolario send replies or complete tasks for me?

No. Nolario suggests tasks and time slots and drafts replies in your voice, and you press send. It is a desktop web app, access is by waitlist, and plans start at €29/mo.
